It's 8:15 in the morning here, 7:15 pm eastern time, 4:15 pm pacific. I'm just getting up and ready for another day of training. Yesterday was full of exciting things like policy explanations and safety lectures. Today we'll actually start the English teaching portion, I think.
The photo is one of the most delicious breads in Japan, and that's saying a lot because there are many delicious breads. Anyway, this is curry bread, or kareepan. It's curry inside a fried bread and it is SO GOOD! I love it.
Well, I have to finish getting ready for my morning commute and workday, so I'll post more later! Thanks for reading!

Hello, all. I'm in Japan! Here's a snapshot of my hotel room for your viewing pleasure. It's rather small. The flight over was good. I watched lots of movies, ate food, and they checked us for swine flu when we got here. Ha.
Today we are beginning training at the Interac offices. I am excited to get started.

A formal introduction

This is my blog for my summer internship in Japan. I'm going to be teaching English in elementary and middle schools for Interac, as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT). I'm leaving on Monday, and I am super excited!
Preparations are coming along well, I just need to check my wardrobe to make sure it's suitable. Entering the Japanese business world is dangerous stuff, my friends. Appearance is a very important. I have to wear sleeves to my elbows, skirts to my knees, and nylons everyday. It's gonna be a hot summer. Eek.
I'm not sure yet where I'll be assigned. Some interns don't even find out until they get to Japan. I guess we'll see. 3 of the kids I know in the program are going to Chiba (near Tokyo), Sapporo (up north in Hokkaido), and Shikoku (the smallest of the 4 main islands). I put Hokkaido first on my list, and Osaka second, but it's really just where they'll take me, you know?
Alright. I solemnly promise to update this blog at least every few days. I'll be posting pictures and lots of exciting things to impress you all and make you jealous, so get excited, people!
